Nage — Throws

Nage is the art of throwing — taking an attacker’s balance and moving them to the ground using body position rather than strength. The name simply means “to throw.” In Bujinkan, throws emerge from the same principles as the strikes and locks: enter correctly, control the center, and the throw follows from the opponent’s own structure. Ganseki nage (“boulder throw”) is the classic example from Kihon Happo — the attacker is “carried” over like a heavy rock that has lost support. Throws are practiced slowly and safely with strong ukemi.
